Nantucket is an island located approximately 30 miles south of
Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The island has a rich heritage as a fishing village
and as the home port for the largest fleet of whaling vessels in the world.
Nantucket s whaling era is celebrated in Herman Mellville s classic novel Moby
which borrows from the real life tale of the whaleship Essex
which was sunk by a whale.
Today, Nantucket is renown as a resort destination with world
class dining and boutique shopping. The island boasts more than 80 miles of
pristine sandy coastline, the vast majority of which is open to the public.
Through the wisdom of forward thinking and philanthropic residents and
visitors, thousands of acres of land are owned by conservation organizations.

Nantucket is a thriving year-round community of approximately
12,000 residents. The Town of Nantucket operates one elementary school, one
middle (junior high) school and one high school. The town is administered by an
elected five member Board of Selectmen with the assistance of an appointed Town
Nantucket real estate values are among the highest in the
country according to some metrics. In the latter half of the 2000s, total
dollar volume of real estate transactions on Nantucket topped $1 billion in
consecutive years. Over the past three decades owners of Nantucket real estate
have enjoyed value increases outpacing the gains of all major stock market indices.
